Everyone was very excited when the S8 was introduced. It was even more exciting when you got to see what the smartphone can do. You still have to wait a little longer to be able to get your hands on the phone, but there is one thing you can enjoy right now. I’m talking about the new Samsung Experience Launcher.
This launcher replaces the TouchWiz Home and offers you a design that is very different from what you’re accustomed to. Unfortunately, you can only use this new launcher if you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 or an S7 Edge. That’s obviously not fair, but hopefully, they can make it available for other models soon.
What You Need To Do Before You Install The Launcher
Before you install the launcher, your Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge will need to be running on Android 7.0 Nougat for this to work. You’re also going to have to clear data and uninstall updates on TouchWiz Home. This is necessary to avoid any incompatibility issues.
Don’t worry; you’re not going to lose any important data on your phone.Your home screen configuration will be erased, so you’re going to have to rearrange the app icons again once you’re done.
To get started, go to the Applications menu in Settings and choose All Apps in the drop-menu you’ll see. Tap on the three dots on the top right and tap on Show system apps and then choose the TouchWiz home from the options. Now, tap on Storage and then select Clear Data on the next screen.
You’ll need to confirm the data wipe by selecting Delete when you see the popup appear. Go back to the Application Info screen for TouchWiz home and tap on the three dots on the top right and choose to Uninstall updates. Confirm your choice, and in a few seconds, it will be wiped clean.
How to Install Samsung Galaxy S8 Launcher
There are two versions on the new launcher. One is the unchanged stock version, and then there is the changed version that tries to fix an error that has been reported with the installation. Go ahead and install both of the APKs, so it’s a little easier just in case you have any problems with the stock versions of the launcher.
Once you’ve downloaded the stock and the modified version install the stock versions. You can easily do this by launching the TouchWiz20home APK with any file browser. Next, tap Install and if the stock version doesn’t work, try the modified version. You shouldn’t have a problem with it.
When you’ve installed the app tap on the home button and take a good look at your new launcher. If your phone asks, make sure that you choose the TouchWiz home.
The whole idea behind the S8 launcher is that it’s a lot smoother and has a lot less redraws if you compare it to the one that comes with the Nougat update for the S7 and the S7 Edge. You also have to love the new swipe gesture that allows you to open the app drawer.
Trying something new on your phone from time to time is always a good thing. You’re finally going to be able to enjoy the Samsung Galaxy S8 launcher without actually having the phone. If you don’t like it, after all, you can always go back to the launcher you were using before. If you try the S8 launcher, don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments.
