  1. Launch Settings and select Cellular/mobile data.
  2. Head over to the bottom and toggle the iCloud Drive switch to On.
    Enabling this allows iOS to take backup with the cellular network when not connected to Wi-Fi.

3. After that, turn off WiFi as by default iOS takes iCloud backup via WiFi. So you need to make sure you are not connected to any WiFi network. You can do that easily from Control Center or go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Toggle Wi-Fi to OFF.

4. If you take WhatsApp backup now, it will be taken with cellular data (of course Cellular Data should be turned on)

In order to do backup your WhatsApp messages, go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup > Back Up Now. You can also include videos in backup if desired.

  1. Launch WhatsApp and tap on 3 dots icon at the top right corner and select Settings.
  2. Under Settings, select Chats.

2. On the next screen, tap on Chat backup.

3. Then, tap on Back up over and select Wi-Fi or cellular.

4. Next, disconnect from all the saved Wi-Fi networks or turn it off.

Turn on mobile data on your device and then start WhatsApp backup.

  1. I started WhatsApp backup to iCloud on Wi-Fi. Then disconnected from Wi-Fi before completion. I noticed that uploading continues on cellular. I turned off iCloud Drive on cellular BUT IT DID NOT STOP UPLOADING. I turned off Cellular altogether.

  2. Hi, I am trying to restore my backup, my messages have come across fine but my media keeps freezing. I’m connected to wifi with a good signal. I wanted to try using the option “Back up using cellular” but I cannot activate this while the restore is in process and I cant get to this option at all without starting the restore process. Can you help me to restore my backup??
