If you can’t find a public or private account but it shows up when you search from another account, it may mean the account user has blocked you on Instagram. Likewise, if you can’t see the profile image, follow or following count, or post count, you might be blocked.

Do you worry when someone doesn’t engage with your Instagram posts? Well, I do! In fact, I even confronted one of my friends who was not liking my Instagram posts and I discovered he was pulling a stupid prank by blocking me on Instagram.

Although it was all a joke, I realized I might not have known about the block for a long time if I had not confronted him. That’s when I started looking for ways to find out if someone blocked you on Instagram.

4 Ways To Know If Someone Blocked You On Instagram

According to Mention, an insight-gathering platform, around 34.74% of Instagram users have less than 1,000 followers and 45.64% have between 1,000 to 10,000 followers.

If you have this many followers on your Instagram account, finding out if someone has blocked you will be challenging. This is because Instagram does not provide a direct way to find out if you are blocked on Instagram by someone.

Thankfully, there are a few easy ways to know if someone blocks you on Instagram. Here are some of the best ways:

Search For Them On Instagram

Searching for the user in question is one of the easiest ways to get a hint that the person has blocked you. Regardless of whether the user has a public or private Instagram account, if it does not appear in the search results, there is a high chance that you are blocked.

You can find the steps to search for someone on this Instagram help page.

It will take you about 1 minute

Follow this simple two-step process to search for someone on the Instagram app.

  1. Open the Instagram app and tap on the search icon at the bottom.

  2. Type the username in the search bar and look for the account. If it doesn’t show up, you might be blocked.

The account not appearing in the search results hints that the user has blocked you. But you can further confirm this by searching for the user profile using another account. If the user appears when searching from another account, you are certainly blocked on Instagram.

To confirm if this method works:

  1. I created two additional accounts on Instagram, “kaiv55” and “qwerty_creators.”

  1. Then I blocked my original account from “qwerty_creators.”

Try Accessing Their Account From Instagram Messages

Next, you can access the user in question’s account through old messages. If you have previous chats with the user, open them and tap the view profile option.

This will take you to the user’s profile page. If this account shows up normally, it means you are not blocked. But if you can’t see the profile picture, the number of followers and following, and the number of posts, you are blocked by that individual.

Personally speaking, I prefer this method a lot. This is because I usually message everyone I am close friends with. So I simply switch to the direct messages section and go to my friends’ profiles to see if they have blocked me.

This works with group messages, too. If you have been in a group with the user in question, you can go to the group chat and access the person’s profile from the list of group members.

There’s also a myth that messaging someone will tell you whether you are blocked. However, that’s not true. When you block someone, or someone blocks you on Instagram, the user will not receive the messages. This means that sending a message will show delivered from your account, but the other person won’t receive it.

Look For Their Profile Via A Browser

When searching for someone on Instagram, there is a chance that the profile won’t show up because the user has deleted it. This means that it’s possible that the user didn’t block you.

I remember once not getting replies from a close friend on Instagram. So I decided to search for his Instagram profile. When I didn’t find the profile, I thought he might have blocked me. However, that wasn’t the case. When I talked to him, I found out he had to delete his account because it got hacked.

In such scenarios, how can you confirm that the user in question has added you to their blocked users list? One way to confirm this is by looking for that profile via a browser. However, this will only work if you log out of your profile on the browser.

Once you have logged out, use this URL to access the Instagram handle of the user in question: www.instagram.com/[insert username here].

According to MakeUseOf, you can find someone’s profile URL by opening his or her profile, tapping on the three dots, and selecting copy profile URL. However, you’d have to do this before the user blocks you.

Try To Follow The Same Account Again

The next thing you can try is to follow the same account again. Suppose you find the user’s profile from the chat history and don’t see any details like the followers, following, etc. If you want to confirm if the user has blocked you, tap the follow button and see what happens.

Instagram won’t show any error message. However, if the user has blocked you on Instagram, the social media platform won’t allow you to follow that account. This will confirm that you are blocked.

Not being able to follow an account can also happen if you have already followed 7,500 people. Instagram’s policy mentions that you can only follow a max of 7,500 people. Anyone who is following more than this would have had to have followed them before this policy change. Instagram does this to prevent spam.

There are also other reasons why you might not be able to follow accounts on Instagram. These reasons include technical issues, Instagram bans, or maximum hourly and daily following limits.
