5 Reasons Why Your Friends Never Like Your Instagram Posts
There can be many reasons why your friends might not like your Instagram posts. Here are some of them:
They Don’t Want Your Posts On Their Activity Timeline
When you like someone’s social media posts, the posts will appear on your activity timeline in interactions, as shown in the image below. It may also appear on someone’s feed. For instance, if you like a post, and that post appears on someone else’s feed, he or she will know you have liked it.
Some people don’t like this about social media sites because they want to keep their activity private. So they might not like your Instagram posts – to keep their activities hidden.
I feel the same way, as I don’t want anyone else to know what pictures I like or comment on. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t like many posts that I don’t want to show up on my activity timeline.
If privacy is important to you, you may not want to like many posts because someone might be able to see your Instagram activity. For instance, third-party services like Snoopreport allow monitoring of someone’s Instagram activity. You can get Snoopreport to monitor someone’s Instagram activities.
You Don’t Like Your Friends’ Posts Either
You might feel understandably hurt or frustrated if your friends don’t seem to engage with your Instagram posts. However, it’s important to remember that liking on social media accounts is a two-way street. If you want your friends to engage with your content, you should also try to engage with theirs.
I am telling this based on my personal experience. I have over 350 followers, most of whom I know. In the beginning, I used to like their post pictures every time.
But then I found that I was only getting around 100 likes on my post.
That’s why I started monitoring which friends didn’t like my posts. When I found out, I stopped liking posts they uploaded. So, if you want to increase the number of likes on your posts on social media platforms, you should also like other people’s posts.
They Don’t Know You Personally
The thing about social media accounts is that the more friends and followers you have, the better it looks. But not all these connections are real.
According to an article in The Conversation, an online journal that prides itself on starting a conversation on different topics, Robin Dunbar, a professor of evolutionary psychology, found about 30 years ago that an average person can maintain only about 150 friends in real life. The number became popular as Dunbar’s Number.
While there is a chance that you might have more than 150 friends in real life, it’s unlikely you’d have more than 1,000 that you actually personally know. But on the contrary, many Instagram accounts have over 1,000 followers. In fact, a recent report from Mention shows that over 45 percent of Instagram users have between 1,000 and 10,000 followers.
This shows that most of your Instagram friends don’t know you personally. As I already mentioned, I have over 350 followers on Instagram. While I know most of them, not all are my friends. The problem is that if someone does not know you personally, their chances of liking your posts reduce significantly.
You Are Posting Too Much
Another reason your friends don’t like your Instagram posts is that you upload too many posts. If this is the case, your friends may initially like your posts. But sooner or later, they will get tired and stop liking most of your pictures.
According to Hootsuite, a social media marketing and management tool, you should only post 3-7 times a week on Instagram. If you post more often, the likes will likely eventually decrease.
Consider the example of my friend, Vijesh. He has over 1,700 posts and more than 1,000 followers, and he makes multiple similar posts on the same day. That’s probably why he only gets 5 to 10 likes on his Instagram posts despite having many followers.
You Are Posting Irrelevant Content
It’s your feed, and you decide what to post and what not to post. But what’s the point of sharing content if you don’t get any likes or comments from your friends or followers? You should post content that is relevant not only to you but also friends.
Another one of my friends often posts random quotes from various sources, some of which she makes up herself. She got likes on the first several posts, but eventually, her friends just stopped responding to her posts.
As a result, she started posting just about herself, whether it was weird dance videos or her doing yoga. This proved fruitful, as she started receiving more likes.
5 Ways To Deal With Friends Not Linking Your Instagram Posts
If your friends don’t like posts on your social media account, there are a few things you can do.
Stop The Self-Doubt
Self-doubt is natural if you don’t get enough likes on Instagram posts. An article from The Conversation states that most social media users compare themselves to people doing worse than them to feel better.
Likewise, when we see posts from people who are better than us, we often feel inferior and depressed.
Let me tell you the story of my best friend. His father used to compare him with one of my friend’s cousins, so he started competing with his cousin in every respect. He was doing well in academics, but when it came to social media accounts, he didn’t get as many likes as his cousin. This made him fall into a depression, and we had to work hard to get him back on track.
So the first thing you need to know to deal with friends not liking your Instagram posts is that you should not doubt yourself based on these numbers. Fewer likes don’t necessarily mean that no one likes you. Moreover, it’s not that important either.
Learn To Ignore It
One of the biggest cons of Instagram is that people get very obsessed with friends not liking their posts. But remember that your world does not need to revolve around social media.
Social media life is good, but it’s not more important than your real life. So if you are not getting likes on your social media posts, just ignore it and move on.
Stop worrying about why you don’t get likes or what others think about you. You should instead try to channel your efforts into something more productive than worrying about social media account likes.
Don’t Accept Friend Requests From Strangers
You can send and accept a friend request from anyone on social platforms like Instagram and Facebook. And many people do this, just to increase the number of their friends and followers. But accepting friend requests from strangers will only increase your followers, not necessarily your likes.
I have received many friend requests from people I don’t know. But as you can see in the below image, I never accept them.
Besides dealing with friends who never like your posts on Instagram, not accepting friend requests from strangers can also protect you from potential scams. As rightly stated by the Alabama News Network, accepting a friend request from strangers can give them access to your personal information from your social media profile, and they can use your information for malicious activities like identity theft.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, identity theft refers to crimes where the scammer uses someone else’s personal information to carry out fraudulent activities. Since these fraudulent activities have adverse consequences, it is best to keep friend requests from strangers at bay.
Create Relevant & Engaging Instagram Posts
The next thing you can do to deal with friends who never like your posts is to post relevant and engaging content. Here are some things you can do to ensure the creation of relevant content:
- Post something about yourself, such as your vacation or throwback images.
- Share something interesting, like a news post or funny meme.
- Share something you are passionate about. This can also help you increase your followers and become an influencer. According to HubSpot, 1 in 4 marketers leverage influencer marketing to reach their target audience.
Remove Unnecessary Friends From Your Friends List
If you have a lot of inactive Instagram friends, what you can do is remove them from your friend list. You should do this immediately if these friends never like your posts. You can personally follow and unfollow any account, but how do you make your friends unfollow you?
You can try reading these Instagram tips and tricks to find a solution, but your only solution is to block your inactive friends. When you block someone on Instagram, he or she cannot see your posts. The person will also not appear on your friend list. This will improve the follower-to-likes and comments ratio on your posts.
It will take you about 1 minute
Follow these simple steps to block someone on Instagram.
- Open the Instagram app and the profile of the person you want to block.
- Tap the three vertical dots in the top-right corner.
