How to Prevent Certain Apps From Appearing In Notifications History In iOS 11

Last Updated: December 4, 2017

Do you wish to receive notifications from specific apps but at the same time don’t want them to stay there in “Earlier Today” section? I needed this particularly for WhatsApp where I wish to be alerted for new messages without it’s notifications accumulating in the history. As removing each notification individually later turns out to be a mundane and time killing task. If you are looking to achieve something similar then iOS 11 has got a setting for it that you’ll love. Here’s a step by step walkthrough to prevent certain apps from appearing in notifications history on iPhone/iPad.

In my case, WhatsApp notifications gradually build-up and clogs the Notifications History over time. Because of this, I miss notifications from other apps quite often. To avoid it and get a cleaner notifications history follow the steps below.

Block Specific Apps From Appearing In Notifications History In iOS 11

1. Open Settings on your iPhone/iPad.

2. Next, tap on Notifications.

3. Under Notifications, come down and select the app for which you don’t want to see notifications in history.

4. Finally, in Alerts section toggle Show in History switch to OFF.

With this, you will get notifications from the selected app but they will no longer appear in the history. You may validate the same by swiping down from the top of the screen or swiping up from centre of the screen when locked. This will show you the notifications history labelled “Earlier Today” and the notifications from the blocked app above won’t be there.

You can use the same steps to block other apps from leaving notifications in history if desired.

This handy little setting not only allows you to get notifications but also makes sure the history stays clean. A perfect solution. Isn’t it?
