In the latest update, Instagram has rolled out a feature that’s called ‘Type‘. Using it you can add text-only stories on Instagram. This is achievable even without using this new option by capturing a random picture and then tapping on the Pen icon at the top. After which you can select the desired background color followed by long pressing anywhere on the screen. This makes the screen blank with the background color you chose. Next, you need to simply type the desired text using the Aa option. But this latest ‘Type‘ option saves you the trouble of going through this lengthy process by making it possible with a single tap.
At times, you might fall short of pictures and videos but still, want to get a message through to your followers. Instagram understands this and that’s the reason behind releasing text-based story. It is similar to text-only WhatsApp or Facebook status. Here’s how you can use it.
Add Text-Only Stories On Instagram
Before moving to the steps make sure you have updated to the latest version of the Instagram app from the respective app stores.
- Open the Instagram app and go to the in-app or Stories Camera as usual.
- You should notice a new option by the name of “Type” at the bottom. Select it.
- Now, the screen will turn blank with a nice gradient. Tap on the area which says – “Tap To Type” and enter the desired text. You can also tag someone in your story as you would normally do.
It is also possible to choose different background color and font.
For changing color, tap on the color palette at the bottom left of the screen.
In order to change the font tap on Modern at the top and it will switch to a different font. The app will automatically change the background depending on the active font style. Similarly, you can tap on the font name at the top to switch to other fonts.
There are four fonts as of now – Strong, Modern, Neon, Typewriter.
Apart from all this, there’s also the possibility to add a picture in the background. However, there will be a filter applied depending on the background color and font you’re using so that the text is more prominent. To add an image, simply tap on the Camera icon at the bottom right. You can also flip it using the double-faced arrow icon if required.
After you are happy with the text, font and background tap on the right arrow at the bottom center. If you’ve added a picture in the background then you will be automatically be taken to the next screen as shown in the screenshot above.
Here you can add stickers, draw or add even more text as you would usually do and upload the post to your story.
