Cannot look at your iPhone’s screen to read recent WhatsApp messages? Well, Siri can do that for you now. WhatsApp has added even more support for the iOS personal assistant with their latest update. I say more because previously when iOS 10 opened up Siri to third-party apps then without any delay WhatsApp rolled out a feature wherein users could send WhatsApp messages using Siri. This time you can make Siri read WhatsApp messages and get to know the message content without having to glance at your phone while driving.
If you don’t already know Siri can read web page content, iBooks, Notes, text messages and more among other excellent Siri features. To be able to read WhatsApp messages using Siri there are two prerequisites.
1. Your iPhone should be running on iOS 10.3 or later.
2. WhatsApp should be updated to version 2.17.20 or later.
After you have the latest iOS and WhatsApp version then you are all set to enjoy this nifty feature.
Make Siri Read WhatsApp Messages out Loud
It is never a good idea to hold or peep at your cell phone to see the messages while driving or cooking. But when an urgent situation demands we are forced to do it. Not anymore! All you need to do is Ask Siri.
In iOS 8, Siri was powered by hands-free mode. Using it, it is possible to invoke Siri without holding down the home button by using your voice. All you need to say is Hey Siri to activate it. So, I would recommend you to enable this setting which is by the name of “Hey Siri”. Here’s how you can turn it on.
1. Open Settings app and select Siri.
2. Under Siri, toggle Allow “Hey Siri” to On.
After that, you will be asked to speak out a few phrases which help Siri to recognize your voice.
That is it! Now, speak Hey Siri and it will be ready to take your instructions.
Please note that if you have an iPhone 6 or older version then Hey Siri will only work when your device is connected to power. In case you have an iPhone 6 or earlier version and it is not connected to power then you will have to long press Home button to activate Siri.
Siri Commands to Read WhatsApp Messages
Now, to read recent WhatsApp messages use the following queries.
- Hey Siri, read WhatsApp messages.
- Hey Siri, read recent/latest WhatsApp messages.
Siri will speak out the number of new messages and the contact names of the senders followed by the content of the messages along with the time they were sent.
Once Siri completes reading the messages then it will also ask you if you want to reply. If you wish you can even reply to those WhatsApp messages using Siri.
We hope that WhatsApp users will find this feature handy. Do you think that you will be using Siri to read WhatsApp messages? Let us know in the comments.
