Spotlight search first came to iPhone/iPad with iOS 3.0. Back then it’s features were limited but now it has become quite a powerful search tool for your iOS device. With iOS 9, Spotlight search was powered with the functionality to search the content in the apps. Without a doubt, it is an exceptional, quickest and easiest way to search data on iPhone. But, you might not want to search within certain apps by default. You are not interested in the results from certain apps. Those results are just clogging space and preventing you from focusing on important search results. If this sounds similar, then follow this guide to remove specific apps from Spotlight search results.
Personally, I am not interested in the results from chatting apps like WhatsApp and Messenger while performing spotlight search. The results returned from these apps are useless for me and hence I have stopped Spotlight from searching these apps on my iPhone. You can also prevent such or other apps if desired from showing up in Spotlight search results. Here’s how.
Exclude Certain Apps from Spotlight Search Results on iPhone/iPad
1. Open Settings app and select General.
2. Under General, tap on Spotlight Search.
3. Now, in Search Results section all the installed apps will be listed.
Toggle the apps which you want to exclude from Spotlight Search to OFF.
That’s all you need to do. The next time you search for something on your iOS device, Spotlight will not search those apps. Hence the results from them won’t appear in the results as shown in the image below.
If you are irritated by the search history then you can use the tweak to delete Spotlight Search history on iPhone.
