Recently Instagram rolled out a feature that allows you to share stories on Instagram Direct. It is similar to what you have for photos and videos on a profile or news feed. With this, it is easier than ever to share stories you like with friends by messaging them privately. But not everyone is comfortable knowing that anyone can view their stories as messages and this latest sharing option allows exactly that. Fortunately, Instagram has included a setting to turn it off for users who are not quite interested in getting their stories shared. Here, we have mentioned the steps to use that setting and disable Instagram Direct Sharing for Stories.
If you have a public profile then anyone can view your stories. But if you want to have some privacy without switching to Private account then turning off sharing on stories is a good choice. In case of a private account, only your followers can view your story even if shared. But still, you might want to completely get rid of any chance of your profile getting shared. Here’s how to get the job done.
Disable Instagram Direct Sharing For Stories
The steps and screenshots are from iPhone app but there isn’t much of a difference in the method for Android.
1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile screen by tapping on the profile icon at the bottom right.
2. Now, tap on Settings(gear icon) under your profile if you are on iOS. For Android, tap on 3 dots at the top right.
3. Next, select Story Settings in Account.
4. Toggle Allow Sharing switch to OFF.
Doing this will remove the Direct message icon from your story restoring to the way it used to be earlier. The best thing is that the setting applies instantly even for the already uploaded stories.
You can always enable Instagram Direct sharing of stories from the same place whenever desired.
