MWC 2016: Sony updates its Xperia line with new X series.
At MWC in Barcelona, Sony had something to blow up the entire Xperia series and start all over with new, well designed phones of the year. I know this is too much to say before the actual release, but Sony has stepped up and listened to the customers’ concerns with the Xperia phones. As an answer to the problem, Sony just released three new phones at the world’s biggest mobile technology conference. The Xperia line-up we’ve seen so far had phones for all: people who love the big screens or the small screens, people who love performance, or taking photos, Sony had a smartphone for all of them. But however stylish the phones seemed, they all were made of glass, had a confusing handling experience and what not.
Sony’s new line of Xperia smartphones includes three brand new pieces: the mid-range Xperia XA, the flagship Xperia X and the Xperia X Performance for people who are performance oriented. Sony says that this new line-up marks “a re-imagining of the Xperia brand.” The only exception is the Xperia X5 Premium which is going to be friends with the new line-up during the transition.
All the three new smartphones will wear the same 5 inch screen, because according to Sony, this size is the most popular one among the customers. The Xperia X series is sexy and stylish. The company ditched all –glass body to get some metal finish. The phones have amazing design, camera technology and battery life which I believe is going to be the selling point.
To address the problems, Sony has also re-touched its software system to get a smoother flow while usage. The camera is the one that has seen some serious improvements. From the lock screen the phone captured the photo in under a second when the object appeared, that is from sleep and locked to waking up, focusing and capturing the photo, all in under one second. Although the water and dust-resistance is only available with Xperia X Performance, I am assuming that the low end models will be equally loved by the users. The battery has been also enhanced. Sony claims that he battery will last for full 2 days with moderate usage. Well the company has not disappointed us with its battery technology, so commenting on the battery can be done after the actual release and usage.
Moving on to the specs that you all are waiting for:
Xperia XA: The mid-range phone features a 720p display with a curved glass, MediaTek MT6755 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 8MP front and 13MP back camera, 16 GB internal storage (which is expandable) and 2300mAh battery.
Xperia X: This model has a better camera as well as more internal storage and overall internals are more powerful than the XA. It sports a Snapdragon 650 processor, 3GB RAM, 23 MP predictive auto-focus camera and 13MP front module, 32 GB internal storage which is expandable and 2620 mAh battery.
Xperia X Performance: This is the performance oriented phone, so it obviously has the highest spec rates. The phone runs on Snapdragon 820 coupled with 3 gigs of RAM, the same camera modules and storage as the X and a 2700mAh battery. It is also water and dust resistant.
