MWC 2016: Huawei’s 2-in-1 laptop is thin, light and beautiful
This Sunday, Barcelona encountered the launch of world’s biggest show on mobile technology, Mobile World Congress. The first day kicked off with the announcement of the beautiful Huawei’s Windows 2-in-1 laptop called MateBook. The first glimpses reminded me of the iPad Pro and which didn’t seem to come out as a shock as the iPad Pro might be the inspiration. However, being as thick as an iPhone 6, measuring at just 6.9mm of thickness, MateBook really had us with its design.
When we take a jump to the specs of the MateBook, it has a 12-inch IPS TFT LCD display which is highlight of the product design. The display covers 84% of the device as claimed by Huawei. Along with the display the rounded edges with a finishing of shining silver or gold color that actually popularized the iPhones makes it a device having one of the best designs in MWC, yet! The display has a resolution of 2160 x 1440. It delivers sharp watching experience in this form factor.

MateBook is advertised keeping the businesses in mind. Productivity is what it is for as advertised in the keynote as well as on the official website. The MateBook is packed with 6th Gen Intel® Core™ M processor with 4 gigabytes of RAM which goes to 8 gigabytes with extra bucks. The battery is as sophisticated as the device, delivering 9 hours of constant video playback or 29 hours of music playback and 13 hours with lighter usage. The volume rockers are fitted with the Huawei’s fingerprint sensor to unlock the device faster than ever. To accompany its design and to go with the business tasks, Huawei also launched a smartpen called MatePen having 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity which makes it a very reliable accessory for on-the-go note taking or presentation tweaks. Talking about business tasks, the Huawei MatePen is fitted with a laser pointer and an eraser at the back.
The pen cannot be docked on the device (dock sold separately) so it’ll have to be taken care of. The keyboard rocks a glass trackpad and also performs really well when compared to others. The device has one USB Type-C port. The prices will range from $699 – $1599 for the tablet and $129, $59 and $89 for the keyboard, pen and dock, respectively.
